Special to The PREVIEW

While the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks are getting ready for the big game on Sunday, parishioners at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church are getting ready for the “Big Party.” The game will be viewed in the Narthex on a large screen TV, with ample room to move around.

Many football fans are wondering if Peyton Manning will finish off his record-breaking season with a win, or if Russell Wilson, in his second year as the Seattle quarterback, will be the winner. It is interesting to note that Russell Wilson attended Peyton Manning’s passing academy when he was a sophomore in high school.

This is the third year that JPII Catholic Church has sponsored a Super Bowl fundraising party. There are many loyal Denver Bronco fans rooting for their home team who have an opportunity to gather together and hopefully celebrate a victory.

There are two football pools for those who wish to participate. Prizes will be distributed at the end of each quarter, with the fourth quarter prize being greater than the prize for the first three quarters.

Special attention is being given to preparing delicious menu items, some of which include “Bronco Riblets” and “Seahawk Wings.” Grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, chilidogs, chili, beverages, snacks and homemade desserts will also be available.

Games will be available for those less enthusiastic fans that prefer to engage in other activities while watching the game. Games include Mexican Train, color Sudoku (with marbles), Scrabble and Philippine solitaire.

Door prizes will be given during the final quarter.

Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m., and the festivities begin at 4 p.m. Kick-off time is 4:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at JPII Catholic Church, Homespun Comforts, The Buck Stops Here and Silver Dollar Liquor.
