Discussion of the November water loss report at the Tuesday meeting of the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) board led to a discussion of how water loss is most effectively measured, as well as to the recognition of PAWSD staff members for their hard work in finding and fixing water leaks.

PAWSD reportedly produced 38.4 million gallons of water in November and sold 19.5 million gallons. The remaining 18.8 million gallons, 49 percent of total water produced, were unbilled. Accounted-for losses totaled almost 15.3 million gallons last month, leaving around 3.3 million gallons of water unaccounted for. This 3.3 million gallons amounts to 9 percent unaccounted-for water loss, drastically down from 44 percent in October, when 18.5 million gallons of water were unaccounted for and only 1.7 million gallons of unbilled water were accounted for.
