PLPOA, PAWSD deal with algae in lakes

Algae mitigation methods for the lakes in the Pagosa Lakes area were discussed at the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) board work session Oct. 22.

Algae mitigation in these lakes is important to PAWSD because excessive growth of blue green algae (Cyanobacteria) that commonly propagates in warmer, shallower, manmade lakes can cause off tastes and odors in municipal and industrial water supplies.
