A Dolores man was killed in Archuleta County on Oct. 31 after his camper trailer fell on him.
Joel Johnson, 52, of Dolores, a longtime supervisor with construction firm Skanska, was in the area to work on local construction projects and was setting up his fifth-wheel camp trailer at a campground near the Chimney Rock Restaurant Thursday when the trailer fell on him, said Archuleta County Coroner Carl Macht.
The incident was reported to Archuleta County Combined Dispatch at 7 p.m., with EMS arriving at the scene 21 minutes later. EMS, Pagosa Fire Protection District, Colorado State Patrol and the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
Johnson was transported via helicopter to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, where he was declared dead, Macht said.
Macht said Monday that Johnson died of internal injuries, but added that an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
