August sales tax revenue up over 2012

Since Oct. 1, when Pagosa Springs Town Manager David Mitchem handed the preliminary 2014 budget to town council, a series of work sessions have taken place in which department heads were asked to explain why they need the amount of money requested to run their department next year, with an eye towards hammering out a final budget before the Dec. 31 deadline.

The town’s budget is divided into six funds, with the general fund and the capital improvement fund being the two largest. Both of these funds depend mostly on the town’s share of sales tax revenue, which is split evenly between the two.
