Special to The PREVIEW

The Silver San Juan Division of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) will hold its fall meeting on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Durango Head Start meeting room in the lower level (west side) of the Northpoint Mall, intersection of Camino del Rio and Main Street in Durango.

Anyone who is interested in trains and modeling is invited.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. with a swap meet and conversation.

This fall, we are fortunate to have Cres Fleming as our guest speaker. His topic will be “Railroads Around Durango.” He is well known in the region for his extensive knowledge of our local railroads, as well as his railroadiana expertise. He spoke to a full house at Fort Lewis College last spring, and now brings his talent to this meeting. Because of the nature of his program, we are giving him extra time.

The afternoon session also features the division’s annual meeting and elections, a photography contest, favorite train contest and an extended “From the Workbench,” where modelers display and discuss their current projects. Swap tables will be available for division members before the clinics and during breaks. A layout tour will conclude the day.

The photography contest is open to paid-up division newsletter subscribers ($5 annual division newsletter subscriptions available at the door). First place will receive a one-year newsletter subscription extension. Contest judging will be by popular vote.

Directions for the layout tour will be handed out following the meeting.
