The reconstruction of Piedra Road has begun, detouring traffic on the northern half of the paved portion of Piedra Road to North Pagosa Boulevard, and work on Cloud Cap Avenue is set to begin soon.

Work on Cloud Cap Avenue will replace sections of the road currently riddled with pot holes, and was part of the 2013 budget for Archuleta County.

According to Public Works Director Ken Feyen, work currently being done on Piedra Road includes embankment work and widening the shoulders. Next, the road will be milled up as part of a full-depth reclamation process that will mix the milled material with a binding agent and relayed, with additional asphalt over the top of it.

On Sept. 30, road and bridge crews will begin milling up pavement and prepping sections of Cloud Cap Avenue that will be repaved.

Feyen said between 1,300 and 1,400 lineal feet, the full width of the road will be repaved.

County crews will do the prep work for the repaving, with Strohecker Asphalt doing the paving work in early October.

“I tried to pick the worst pot-holed areas that would still be staying within that budget limit,” Feyen said.
