Storm pounds Pagosa, snow falls in the high country

Dawn broke Monday morning to reveal some of the aftermath of Sunday’s storm: patches of hail and snow on the high peaks. Wolf Creek Ski Area personnel reported Monday morning that as much as 2 inches of the white stuff fell on the slopes during the storm.[/caption]

A significant storm hit Pagosa Country Sunday, dropping hail in many areas, bringing torrential rains and strong winds to parts of Pagosa Country, with microbursts that, in some instances downed trees.

One outage was reported around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning that may have been storm-related: a tree fell near Quality Inn and Suites, adjacent to U.S. 160, snapping a power line and leaving 850 LPEA customers without power. By 9:30 a.m. this morning, crews had restored power to all but 16 of the customers.

The other thing the storm brought: snow to the high country.

Snow fell on the Divide and on Wolf Creek Ski Area. Approximately two inches of the white stuff fell at the ski area, but was expected to melt off as the day progresses.
