Special to The SUN

This past Sunday afternoon, I had the opportunity to have a long conversation with a couple that take an aggressive approach to a healthy lifestyle.

Many living in Archuleta County live an active lifestyle and want to make it a rewarding experience as long as they can. Those of us living here have the opportunity to avail ourselves to a wide selection of health professionals — traditional and alternative. We have clubs and organizations that sponsor activities which promote physical and mental well- being for all ages. All of us should be thankful for and take advantage of such opportunities when time, money and trust make it possible.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church has had from its early beginning a strong approach of promoting a healthy lifestyle. The local Seventh Day Adventist Church has negotiated with Dr. Tim Riesenberger and will sponsor a series of free lectures by this outstanding medical professional. Having a passion for preventive medicine, Dr. Riesenberger has traveled across the U.S. and to dozens of countries around the world as a speaker and medical practitioner. You may have had the privilege of viewing his health message through “Amazing Health” TV programs.

This free multi-night seminar starts on Sept. 21 and continues nightly through Sept. 28, at the Ross Aragon Community Center. The local Wellness Center has endorsed this seminar and some of its staff will assist in providing some medical checks. Free blood pressure screening will be provided Sept. 21, 23 and 25, from 6:15 to 6:50 p.m. Attendees will also receive a certificate for free early detection screening including body mass index, cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose. Childcare will be provided. Mark your calendars now; plan to attend and learn how to live healthier longer.
