SchulteA familiar face looks to be returning to the helm of Archuleta County.
Completing the shortest administrator search in recent memory, the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners voted Monday morning to extend an employment offer to Greg Schulte, former Archuleta County administrator.
The decision came following an hour and a half of closed-door discussions during an executive session held for the purpose of reviewing the 34 applications received for the position.
Current administrator Jesse Smith was hired on a six-month contract that is set to expire on Oct. 15, with Smith declining the option to extend the contract.
Following the meeting, the BoCC informed SUN staff that two finalists had been declared — Schulte and Scott Hahn.
“We had many qualified candidates,” BoCC chairman Clifford Lucero said following the meeting. “We felt as though Greg Schulte was the best candidate at this time.”
Schulte resigned from Archuleta County in November to take the job of assistant county administrative officer for San Luis Obispo County, Calif. Schulte served in that position from December 2012 until July 2013.
Prior to that, Schulte served as Archuleta County administrator from January 2008 to November 2012. Before that, Schulte worked in California.
Hahn has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Colorado and a BA from the University of Northern Colorado.
According to his resume, Hahn served as city manager for Petersburg, Alaska, from January 2010 to August 2011. Before that, he served as city manager for Cordova, Alaska. Hahn’s resume also shows prior work in Colorado.
County Attorney Todd Starr is negotiating the contract with Schulte, and said Tuesday that he anticipates the contract to be presented to the BoCC for approval at its Sept. 3 meeting.
Commissioner Michael Whiting said Monday the contract will include performance measures.
