A Pagosa Springs man was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center by helicopter following a Friday morning accident, and was released later that day.

At about 6:30 a.m. Friday morning, Mandon Miller, 18, of Pagosa Springs, was driving westbound on U.S. 160 when he fell asleep near the eastern Archuleta County line, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Doug Wiersma.

After he fell asleep, Miller’s 2006 Jeep Liberty drifted off the right side of the road at mile post 155.1, crashed into a sign and a fence, and rolled two times down an embankment, Wiersma reported.

Wiersma stated that Miller was wearing a seatbelt, but had to be extricated by emergency personnel before being airlifted to Mercy, where he was released later the same day.

Miller has been charged with careless driving and possession of drugs, Wiersma reported.
