Archuleta residents who would like to quit smoking are invited to a free informational meeting sponsored by San Juan Basin Health at 6 p.m. Aug. 5 at the G.O.A.L. Academy at 100 Country  Center Drive, Ste. L.

Kimberley Bradshaw, a trained Freedom from Smoking facilitator, will host the meeting. She will introduce the program, costs, what to expect and what is expected of you.

Bradshaw will conduct the complete eight sessions beginning the following Monday, Aug. 12, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Freedom from Smoking features a step-by-step plan for quitting smoking. Each session is designed to help smokers gain control over their behavior. The format encourages participants to work on the process and problems of quitting both individually and  as part of a group.

The American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking program is for adults who are ready to quit smoking. Because most people know that smoking is dangerous to their health, the program focuses almost exclusively on how to quit, not why to quit.

San Juan Basin Health, through the Celebrating Healthy Communities Coalitions, provided the opportunity for local individuals in Archuleta County to become trained Freedom from Smoking facilitators so there could be quit smoking local resources for community members.
