PAWSD prepares for effects from West Fork Fire

With approximately 30 percent of the West Fork of the San Juan River watershed affected by wildfire and the recent heavy rains, the initial amounts of ash and fire debris have been flowing by the intake for the Snowball Water Treatment Plant and Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation district officials expect this to continue as the current weather pattern persists.

While there is no contamination of the water system by ash or fire debris, PAWSD is working with the U.S. Forest Service to prepare for all possible ash and fire debris that could impact the river in the coming days.
