Twenty seconds.
If you sang the ABC song, it would take you 20 seconds.
It takes about 20 seconds to form an opinion about someone you just met.
It takes you 20 seconds to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Some people say it takes only 20 seconds to say the “Our Father.” They say for the perfect warmup to running, you should run a very intense 20 seconds.
Well, have you ever tried to see how long you take to wash your hands, just the washing portion?
Try it.
It may be hard to believe, but at Seeds of Learning, each child is required to wash their hands for 20 seconds every single time they use the bathroom, pick up something dirty, or for any other reason a child may need to wash his or her hands. They do it each and every time, and have it down pat!
Recently, Seeds had an Environmental Rating Scale evaluation performed. They rate you on activities, interaction, program structure, parents and staff. These evaluations are one of the requirements for Seeds to keep their NAEYC accreditation.
The scale is based on a 1-7 rating, with a 5 being a very good evaluation.
Seeds of Learning received an outstanding rate of 6.33, and it would have been perfect, if they had known that, at the first of the year, the evaluation for washing your hands went from 15 seconds to 20 seconds.
We are proud of Executive Director Lynne Bridges, all 10 of the great teachers at Seeds and, finally, the wonderful 56 kids who come to Seeds of Learning. Thanks for washing your hands so well. Now, I am sure the next time you shake the hands of the youngsters at Seeds you will be confident they are clean.
