On June 27, the Silver Foxes Den honored many volunteers during the annual volunteer appreciation event.

A wonderful lunch was prepared by The Den’s staff and served at Cafe Fox by county commissioners Clifford Lucero, Steve Wadley, Michael Whiting and county administrator Jess Smith.

There are 50-plus volunteers who give of their time to keep the programs at the Senior Center running smoothly. You’ll see them scurrying about to get the tables set, providing water for the tables, clearing tables, helping in the kitchen, delivering home meals and taking an extra minute to check in and chat with the homebound. They check your blood pressure a couple of times a month and serve on a variety of boards, host the brain injury support group, book club, Meditation for Healing and card games, and provide office assistance. In just five months, these dedicated individuals have logged over 400 hours.

Volunteers, we honor you.

Right from the start, you cared from your heart.

In the blink of an eye you serve others in many capacities.

With your help, our community of seniors retains their independence.

Together, we are more than a meal.

You are the best the Silver Foxes Den could ever ask for.

Your commitment to all deserves recognition.

Colorado Senior Law Day

This annual educational seminar in Denver presents a multitude of programs specifically designed for seniors in the Colorado community.

If you are a senior, an adult child with an aging parent, or a caregiver, this is one day you cannot afford to miss — Saturday, July 27, at the Denver Mart. Admission is an optional contribution of $10, which includes a free copy of the 2013 edition of Senior Law Handbook (a fabulous handbook I might add).

The following is a sampling of the many workshops available:

• Adult protection and elder abuse.

• Consumer and investment fraud prevention.

• Living wills, advance medical directives, DNR order, proxies and end-of-life issues.

• Estate planning: wills, trust and your property.

• Social Security.

• Aging in place — maintaining your independence at home.

• Bankruptcy.

• Planning for your pets.

• LGBT domestic relationships and civil unions.

• Lifelong learning and the aging brain.

• Hanging up the car keys for good.

• What to do when someone dies.
