Special to The SUN

Jog for Julie has something for everyone and is an event for all ages.

It takes place this Saturday, June 8, at Centerpoint Church.

All proceeds from this event will help with the cost of an upcoming medical treatment for Julie Knapp. Julie is fighting stage four bone cancer metastasis.

The 5k race for runners and walkers will begin at 10 a.m. All participants must register prior to the race by completing an entry/waiver form. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and closes at 9:45 the day of the race. The registration fee for runners and walkers is $30 for age 18 and up. Teens 13 through 17 will pay $20. Children 12 and under are free with a paying adult. Those participants who have collected $100 or more from sponsors will have their registration fee waived. All collected money, cash and checks, must be turned in at the entry table before the race, along with the sponsorship form.

Runners will start the race and walkers will follow. Baby packs, strollers and wagons are permissible; no bikes, please.

For those who do not want to run or walk, there are other activities.

A silent auction will begin at 9 a.m. and bids will be taken until 11:30. Come prepared to bid on a variety of fantastic items donated by local businesses and individuals.

Also beginning at 9 a.m. will be a bake sale offering fresh, scrumptious goodies.

Those interested in learning their antioxidant score can do so quickly and safely. This is a non-evasive, 90-second scan of the palm of your hand. Dell Mellette will be available with the BioPhotonic Scanner beginning at 9 a.m.

Hot dogs, chili dogs, chips and drinks will be available for lunch beginning at 11 a.m.

Julie underwent her third surgery on May 20 in Colorado Springs. She continues to get monthly bone-building inoculations and she takes medication daily. Julie’s doctors have no further treatment plan.

Through Jog for Julie, we hope to raise the money needed for Julie to receive a well researched medical treatment not available in the United States. Our goal is to raise $9,000.

Wear your pink (breast cancer awareness) and green (Julie’s chosen race color) and come support the Knapp family as we gather together for Jog For Julie on Saturday, June 8.
