Special to The PREVIEW

The Pagosa Springs Brain Injury Support Group celebrates its one-year anniversary on May 1.

The Brain Injury (BI) Support Group meets the first and third Friday of each month at 10:30 a.m. for one hour. Don Wilhelmi, a brain injury survivor himself, volunteers as facilitator of the meeting, which is held in the lounge of the Silver Foxes Den, located within the Ross Aragon Community Center.

The Southwest Center for Independent Living helps to sponsor the group. The format is welcoming, comfortable and informal.

The mission of the group is to share resources, guidance and compassion with survivors who are in various stages of their recovery. Recovery can be extremely confusing and turbulent for caregivers and survivors alike. By offering support and sharing experiences and strengths with caregivers and survivors, group members strive to ease the frustration of getting well.
