Wal-Mart has submitted a request to the Pagosa Springs Planning Department for a variance to install a 209 square-foot wall sign on the front of its proposed store — the town’s Land Use and Development Code places a 100 square-foot limit on such signs — and the Design Review Board voted Tuesday to approve the variance.

According to the LUDC, “The maximum area of any one sign shall be determined by the following formulas: Wall-mounted signs shall not exceed ten percent of the facade in Zone 2, on which it is mounted, up to a maximum of 100 square feet.”
