Despite interviewing candidates for the position of finance director, and offering the job to a candidate, Archuleta County remains without someone to fill the post.

After interviewing three finalists earlier this month, the finance director position was offered to Chris Freese, who declined the position, stating that her current job had evolved into something that she did not want to leave, according to Todd Starr, interim county administrator.

Now, county staff and the Board of County Commissioners have elected to interview and test an additional candidate who was not among the original finalists. The interview will take place Friday.

“We’re trying to get the best candidate for the job,” Starr said of the decision to interview an additional applicant.

That finalist is Terry Harland, of Edwards, Colo.

Harland current serves as chief financial officer for USC, Inc. in Delta, Colo., and previously served as an accountant for Highland Builders in Vail.

Harland holds a B.S. degree in mathematics and a B.A. in accounting, both from the University of Houston. Harland also completed coursework in computer science, according to his resume.

The county finance director position has been vacant since the Feb. 8 resignation of Diane Sorensen, who left to take a position with La Plata County.
