The Sixth Judicial District’s newest judge is William Herringer, previously a defense attorney in Durango.
Herringer, 47, will replace David L. Dickinson, who retired effective Feb. 28.
Dickinson was appointed to the post in December 1998.
Herringer is a partner and owner of Greenberg & Herringer, LLC, in Durango, where he focused primarily on criminal defense, with some administrative and civil law.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, followed by a summer law program with the Florida State University College of Law in Oxford, England.
He received a J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School in 1993.
He was admitted to the Colorado State Courts in 1993, the U.S. District Court for Colorado in 1999, the U.S. Court of Appeals Tenth Circuit in 1999, and the Southern Ute Tribal Court in 2006.
There were three finalists for the position — Herringer and Todd Norvell, both of Durango, and Todd Starr of Pagosa Springs — each selected by the Judicial Nominating Commission on Feb. 26.
The Sixth Judicial District includes Archuleta, La Plata and San Juan counties.
