Obituary-Edna M. Lewis

Edna M. Lewis, age 95, a resident of Aztec, N.M., passed away Dec. 26, 2012.

Edna was born in Pagosa Springs on Nov. 29, 1917, to Orill and Ray McMain. She was proud to come from pioneering stock who settled in Pagosa Springs. Her grandfather, A. Dutton, was sheriff for many years.

She was married to Johnny Kimble until his death in 1962. In 1964, Edna married Bertis Lewis, but was widowed again in 2008. Edna was well known in Pagosa as she was deputy county clerk in the 1950s and was office manager of Lewis Butane until she and Bertis retired and moved to Aztec to raise horses.

Edna loved basketball and played on the Pagosa town team as a young woman. She loved to snowmobile with Bertis and was very active in the local snowmobile club. Edna is survived by her daughter, Glenda Rae House, and husband Connally of Oklahoma; stepdaughter Linda Ward of Aztec, who cared for Edna her last years; stepsons Randy Lewis and his wife Agnes of Albuquerque, N.M., and Byrle Lewis and his wife Marla of Edgewood, N.M.; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. As per Edna’s request, no services will be conducted.
