Democrats gathered Friday afternoon outside Pagosa Baking Company for a rally that included speakers from the state and national stage.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, U.S. Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennett, Colorado Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia and Colorado Sen. Gail Schwartz all took to the stairs of the bakery, urging supporters to continue their work.

Topics at the rally, part of the “Colorado Forward” RV tour that made stops throughout Colorado, highlighted work of local volunteers and voter registration efforts, as well as the importance of voting in the upcoming Nov. 6 General Election.

“We can sleep in November,” Schwartz said, with Bennet later clarifying that sleep could not happen until after Nov. 6.

Other discussion points considered the differences between the presidential candidates (noting that Romney likely can’t keep track of promises he’s made) and the promises and work by President Barack Obama.

Others highlighted local energy efforts (geothermal and biomass gasification) and the work to designate Chimney Rock as a national monument.
