The Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts is a lively place in the summers. This year will be no exception, with three major musicals running in repertory: “The Great American Trailerpark Musical,” Jersey Boys” and “Godspell.”

More than 30 professional artists descend on our town, designing, rehearsing and performing for three months straight.

And right in the middle of it all is the Whatchamawhozits Children’s Theatre Summer Camp. This super fun and wildly popular summer camp is in its 12th summer at the Center for the Arts.

The Whatchamawhozit Children’s Theatre Summer Camp will run July 3 through July 14, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with public performances on July 15 and 16. There will be no camp on July 4.

The camp is open to kids 7-14 years old (6-year-olds may inquire about special permission) and is taught by the professional performers in town for Thingamajig Theatre Company’s summer season.

The camp will focus on putting up the production of “NEWSIES Jr.,” which will be performed for the public on July 15 and 16.

Theater teaches students the valuable skills of teamwork, public speaking, critical thinking, self-confidence, physical fitness and, above all, empathy. All are incorporated in the form of singing, dancing and acting.
