Archuleta County Genealogical Society to hear from Santos Luis O’Cañas

The Archuleta County Genealogical Society is pleased to welcome Santos Luis O’Cañas as the speaker at our Saturday, Oct. 1, meeting. 

O’Cañas will be speaking about the process of writing a book, a brief history of his family, and the importance and benefits of genealogy.

O’Cañas, originally from Texas, now lives in the San Juan Mountains. He is a writer and is a retired teacher. He has written multiple books, “A Common Man,” ”Mi Abuelito, José de la Cruz O’Cañas” and “Mi Mama, María Guadalupe O’Cañas, A Determined Soul,” and “El Barrio de la Juventud La Raza’s Golden Era.” His other works include the play “Alma’s Sacrifice” and a short film called “El Big One.” He has published stories in the University of Houston-Downtown’s Bayou Review, La Politiquera, The Voice, Bolero and Primero. Currently, he is working on several projects. He has also appeared in three films, “B.O.O.S.T,” “Homebound” and “El Big One.”

The meeting will be held at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis Street. The presentation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a short business meeting.

All visitors are welcomed and encouraged to join us to hear O’Cañas.
