Gary C. Stansbury, of Colorado Springs, Colo., awoke in heaven on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at the age of 82.

Gary was born in Topeka, Kan., on Oct. 25, 1939. In 1957, he graduated from Patterson Park high school in Dundalk, Md., and joined the U.S. Army. He served in the 10th Special Forces GP (airborne) stationed in Bad Toelz, Germany. After receiving an honorable discharge in August 1960, Gary attended the University of Montana for one year before attending Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., where he graduated with a B.S. in Political Science in 1964. He was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency from 1964-1992 as an operations officer. He served most of his career abroad in Southeast Asia, Europe and finally Latin America. In retirement, Gary became an accomplished fly-fisherman and woodworker. 

Gary is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judi, of Colorado Springs; sons Rhett Stansbury, of Littleton, Colo., Trevor Stansbury, of Loveland, Ohio, and Chad Stansbury of Omaha, Neb.; daughter Andrea Stansbury, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and his brother, Rick Stansbury, of Crossville, Tenn.

He is preceded in death by his father, Col. Paul Stansbury, his mother, Celia Barfield, infant son Rhadd Stansbury and grandson Timothy Stansbury.

Gary’s memorial service will be held at The Road at Chapel Hills.
