Scott Eugene Erickson, age 61, passed away on Oct. 7. Scott was a funny, honest, clever and caring man who was generous with his family, friends and community. He helped people with their hearing for over 30 years with the last 17 as the co-owner of Ears2U Hearing Aid Services in Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Alamosa, Colo.
In the summer, he and his wife enjoyed boating and camping at Navajo Lake. He drove and taught many water skiers, wakeboarders and tubers. He had a true appreciation for cars as he entered and attended many car shows. You could often find him at the grill — specializing in steaks, burgers and ribs. In the fall, you could find him hunting, ATV-ing, watching the Oregon Ducks football games or patiently waiting for the Raiders’ meteoric return to greatness. In the winter, you would see him on his Ranger plowing the snow further than was needed because he was enjoying himself too much or meticulously making it “even.” He would always stop to pull a stranger out of the ditch. In the spring, you could find his Jimmy Buffet spirit traveling to anywhere warm — Mexico, Hawaii, Arizona. Anywhere that he could wear his straw hat and get into the Margaritaville mood was his favorite place to visit.
Scott was always quick with a dad joke or a movie quote, and he could always brighten the day of anyone he met. He inspired many through coaching for a number of things: basketball, soccer, waterskiing and wakeboarding to name a few. He had unending patience for those who tried their hardest, and he would help you discover your strengths and use them to your advantage. He had this amazing gift of making a person feel special by recognizing talents that would typically go unnoticed. He taught people around him the importance of attention to detail and to go the extra mile for people he cared for. He had a firm handshake and eyes that would smile when you walked in the room that would instantly make you feel at ease. He gave the best hugs and he would hold you so tight that you just felt safe.
One thing was certain: He loved his family, his clients, his town and his country. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Gennette, his four daughters, his three sons-in-law, and five granddaughters.
