Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
The Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship continues virtual services on the first and third Sundays of the month.
Please join us on this Sunday, April 18, at 10 a.m., as we gather to experience a recorded sermon entitled “Spirituality and Birth” with the Rev. Angela Herrera of the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque and her daughter, Olivia Herrera. The unusual format of this sermon is a dialog between mother and daughter, between spiritual leader and nurse/birth assistant, with both finely attuned to the spiritual nature of birth.
The topic is also unusual as Angela Herrera says, “When I think of spirituality and birth, the first thing I notice about this topic is its absence. You can find books geared toward expectant parents that incorporate spirituality, but when I turn to my usual books on spirituality and religion, there isn’t much about birth in there. When birth is mentioned, it’s usually a passing detail in a story about something else. I read a lot of poetry and literature, and it’s rarely mentioned there either. Nor do you see it in art. Once you start to think about it, it seems really strange that such a huge thing is hardly ever mentioned or depicted.”
We will celebrate the season of birth and rebirth by experiencing this uncommon topic in an unusual format. Pauline Benetti will be the service leader.
