2019/09/obit-Janet-Hodgson-2-219x300.jpgJanet Boice Hodgson, 87, passed away peacefully on Sept. 18, in Bozeman, Mont. Janet was born on May 9, 1932, in Summit, N.J., the eldest of two children to parents Howell and Grace Correll Boice.

After graduating from Summit High School (N.J.) in 1950, she studied elementary education at Trenton State Teachers College, where she met Frederick Hodgson, a returning WWII veteran and member of the college’s football team.

After a three-year courtship, the couple were married in 1953 in New York City and enjoyed the next 66 years together.

Janet received her history degree from Syracuse University and then worked as an archivist at the libraries of Penn State University, Cornell University and the University of Louisville.

Upon their retirement in 1996, Fred and Janet relocated to Bozeman. The couple enjoyed traveling, hiking, playing bridge, walking groups and attending Montana State football and basketball games. Janet loved to read and also volunteered at the Gallatin County Pioneer Museum and at the Bozeman Welcome and Tourist Information Center.

She is survived by her loving family: husband Frederick, of Bozeman; sister Ruth (Gordon) Smith, of Cold Spring, Ky.; sons Michael (Terri House), of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Theodore (Paris), of Covington, Ky.; grandchildren Kathie Hodgson, of Kearney, Mo., Jennifer Allison, of Indianapolis, Sondra (Zach) Warren, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Tristan Hodgson, of Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam, Hannah (Jacob) Evans, of Annapolis, Md.; great-grandchildren Kevin, Kasey, and Kaegan Ewers, Charles Allison V, Tyler and Carson Warren; and great-great-granddaughter Sophia Ewers.

A celebration of Janet’s life will occur in spring of 2020.
