Wanda Ann Rivas, 66, gained her heavenly wings at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Mercy Medical Hospital in Durango, Colo.

Wanda was born Jan. 12, 1953, in Pagosa Springs, Colo., and was a lifelong member of the community. Wanda was a devoted wife and caretaker to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Wanda was a mentor of young children and coached youth T-ball teams and worked as a manager at the Methodist Thrift Store. Her greatest accomplishments were her children and family. She was a strong and fierce woman and fought a courageous battle.

Wanda is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Joseph A. Rivas Sr., Pagosa Springs; son Joseph A. Rivas Jr. (Guadalupe), Pagosa Springs; son Paul R. Rivas, Pagosa Springs; daughter Angelica Y. Mendez (Eduardo), Pagosa Springs; as well as her grandchildren: Chasstidy Rivas, Diego Rivas, Christopher Rivas, Vanessa Rivas, Gabriel Mendez, Mendy Mendez and Michael Mendez; and a great-grandchild, Kali Griswold. Wanda is also survived by her mother, Ramona Montano, Pagosa Springs; five sisters, Elouise Andrews, Monica Archuleta, Connie Medina (Henry), Vickie Montano and Peggy Montano, all of Pagosa Springs; one brother, Alex Montoya (Debbie), also of Pagosa Springs; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins; and many more extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Tony Ochoa.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Pagosa Springs. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 15, also at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Kenny Udumka will officiate and there will be a reception immediately after the service.
