Special to The PREVIEW

The “Embracing Your Inner Superhero — Meeting the Emotional Challenges of the Cancer Journey with Skill, Resilience and Compassion” workshop will be held Sept. 29 from 8:45 a.m. to 1 pm.

Sponsored by Blueprints of Hope, a nonprofit, this event will be held at the Durango Public Library, 1900 E. 3rd Ave., Durango.

This is the second of three cancer survivorship workshops, with the workshops scheduled to extend into February 2019. Each workshop has been made possible in part by a grant from the Colorado Cancer Coalition, Colorado Cancer Fund, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Cancer affects the mind, body, and soul. We may feel scared and powerless when first diagnosed, and the emotional distress can wreak havoc on our overall well-being. With a little care and awareness, we can be our own superheroes and shield ourselves from stress and fear.

This workshop’s presenters are Janet Curry, MA, LPC; and Oley Smith, Dipl. O.M., L.Ac. This workshop aims to gently explore and bring skillful ways to work with the common human reaction to emotional distress. These presentations will offer the knowledge and tools to activate your own internal pharmacy for healing.

The event is open to cancer patients, survivors, their friends, caregivers and health care professionals. The cost is $10 per person, which includes lunch. Scholarships are available. Space is limited, so please register online at www.blueprintsofhope.org or call 403-3711.

Blueprints of Hope is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, based in Durango, dedicated to providing community-based oncology nurse navigation, education, advocacy and supportive care programs for cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and health care providers in southwest Colorado.

The goal of these workshops is to promote viable options people can use to make the most of life as they travel through the cancer journey.
