Four Mile Ranch environmental education programs have provided Pagosa youth a window into the natural world for over 10 years.
Only a few weeks into the school year, students head out to the Hersheys’ beautiful ranch to investigate standards-aligned concepts ranging from plant function to insect metamorphism to understanding the intricacies of the water cycle. This field trip not only serves as a way to connect students more deeply with their surrounding world, but also it provides a foundational experience early in the school year where friendships are forged and teamwork is developed.
Audubon Rockies programs wouldn’t be a possibility without the help of many volunteers. If you have some availability and an interest in sharing your love for nature with kids, please consider attending a volunteer educator training on Sept. 5, 6 and 7.
On Wednesday, we will meet for a half day (9 a.m. to noon) in the west conference room at the Ross Aragon Community Center to familiarize attendees with concepts and an approach to hands-on education.
Thursday and Friday will be spent at the ranch working through lessons and hiking the trails from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
