Special to The PREVIEW
The Literary Ladies book club is slated to meet tomorrow, March 23, to discuss its current book.
It’s 1945 and a young teenager with her family in Garmisch, Germany, have been protected from terror and desperation overtaking her country by a high-ranking Nazi who wishes to marry her. However, on Christmas Eve, an escaped Jewish boy arrives on her doorstep and she protects him from the German SS.
Many years later, Elsie is living in Texas, where she owns Elsie’s Germany Bakery. A local newspaper journalist decides to interview Elsie and finds that their previous lives are intertwined.
“The Baker’s Daughter” is available at our library and you can join us on Friday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m., to discuss the lives of Germans who were not affiliated with the Nazi party.
