The Archuleta County Community Marijuana Offset Impact Fund Committee is accepting applications for grants up to $5,000. The grants are meant to support projects and programs that develop awareness within Archuleta County about marijuana and programs that will help Archuleta County citizens, especially children, make positive lifestyle choices.

Funds for these grants come from a percentage of application, license and operating fees on all types of marijuana establishments in the county.

The committee, made up of community members, will review the applications and make recommendations to the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC), which will administer the grants.

The committee encourages any local nonprofit organizations looking to make a positive impact on our community’s youth to apply. We are particularly interested in organizations that have ideas to help children make alternative choices to using drugs and alcohol.

The committee is also looking for projects to develop awareness throughout the community about the risks associated with the use of marijuana, especially underage use.

Grant applications can be found at www.archuletacounty.org under “County News” and must be submitted to the county by Feb. 28. Applications can be submitted electronically by email to fgoheen@archuletacounty.org or hand delivered to 398 Lewis St.

The committee will review applications in March and make recommendations to the BoCC, who will announce the recipients in April.

Questions can be directed to Flora Goheen at fgoheen@archuletacounty.org.
