Fall is here. It’s time for enjoying the aspen in their golden glory and cheering on your favorite football team. It’s also time for the best barn dance in Pagosa Country, the third annual Jewels and Jeans Barn Dance sponsored by the Pagosa Springs Noon Rotary Club.
The history of barn dancing goes back in time as friends and neighbors got together to celebrate the completion of a “barn raising”; building a barn for a neighbor to help them store their grain for the winter.
Today, barn dancing is alive and well as cowboys and cowgirls from all walks of life shake off the dust from a day’s work and head to town for a night of dancing. And it’s still a time to help your neighbor.
All proceeds from the dance go to help folks in our local community, including our children who lack sufficient food, students who need financial assistance for college and teachers who lack supplies for their classrooms.
So, join your friends and neighbors on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Archuleta County Extension building for this annual tradition and a stomping good time. Tickets are only $10 in advance and $15 at the door and can be purchased from any noon Rotarian or at Exit Realty.
