    Special to The PREVIEW
The Literary Ladies (formerly the Senior Book Club) will meet on Sept. 22 at the Sisson Library at 10:30 a.m. to discuss “Where the Heart Is “ by Billie Letts.
This book was chosen as an Oprah’s Book Club selection in December 1998. A 2000 film was also made about the book.
“Where the Heart Is” follows the lives of Novalee Nation, Willy Jack Picken and their daughter Americus Nation for a period of seven years in the 1980s and early 1990s. It dramatizes in the detail the tribulations of foster children and lower-income children in our country.
Novalee, a pregnant 17-year-old, is abandoned by her boyfriend in a small town in Oklahoma, where she gives birth to her daughter in a local Walmart. This small town adopts her and with the assistance of several people, she becomes a professional photographer. Willy Jack has a career as a singer and guitar player. Join us for a discussion of this book from the ‘90s.
