The Pagosa Springs Community Gardeners will continue their popular summer-long Free Gardening Talk series presented by local gardening experts on Tuesday, July 25.
On Tuesday, July 25, Robin Young, the new CSU/Archuleta County Extension director and agent, will discuss “Pests: Microorganisms to Bears.”
The 4:30 p.m. presentation will be held at the River Pointe Coffee House Meeting Room, 445 San Juan St., along the San Juan Riverwalk in downtown Pagosa Springs.
A new Pagosa Springs resident, Young’s talk on Tuesday evening will be the first opportunity for most local gardeners and property owners to meet her and, during the question-and-answer period, learn of her goals for her new position serving Archuleta County.
A high-altitude Colorado gardener for over 20 years, Young most recently served as the CSU/Custer County Extension agent in Westcliffe.
Knowledgeable in preventing and managing garden pests, Young has a passion for flower and vegetable gardening and seed saving. She recently attended Seed School at the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance. In her new position, Young will be responsible for the development/execution of numerous programs including 4-H and youth development, horticulture, local food systems, small acre management, natural resources, agriculture, and family and consumer sciences.
For insight about all types of pest management, please join us. The free talk will begin promptly at 4:45 p.m.
Ron Chacey, Pagosa Springs’ renowned organic gardener and tree farmer, will present the following free gardening talk on Aug. 1 at 4:30 p.m. at the River Pointe Coffee House. Chacey will discuss “Cool- and Warm-Weather Crops: A Study in Microclimates.”
About the community garden
The Pagosa Springs Community Garden, developed and managed solely by volunteers, is located at 5th Street on the San Juan River. This year has been a banner year for the garden. A full revitalization of the plots was made possible thanks to Pagosa’s dedicated businesses and volunteers donating thousands of dollars in materials. Several of the almost decade-old garden space gardeners returned to participate.
