Pagosa Springs Girls Choir final auditions tonight

By Linda Parker
Special to The PREVIEW

Tonight’s the night. Do you love to sing? Enjoy performing? Love to travel? Would you enjoy having a private tutor to help your voice? Are you a middle school-aged girl (grades five through eight)?

If you answered yes to those questions, then come to the Pagosa Springs Middle School band room tonight, Thursday, Aug. 25; you have a final opportunity to be a part of the Pagosa Springs Girls Choir (PSGC) for the 2016-2017 school year.

A final audition for the PSGC for the 2015-2016 school year will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the middle school band room. For the audition, students will be asked to sing “America” (“My Country ‘tis of Thee”), echo sing some melodic patterns and echo clap some rhythm patterns.

Once a member of the choir, girls spend much of their time learning vocal and choral techniques. However, they also learn about stage presence and musicianship. Girls learn and sing music of all genres, and some of their music includes props and choreography.

The PSGC has an exciting year in store. Our first activity is to be a part of a professional CD for Western music entertainer Judy James.

James was a part of the “Cowboy Jubilee” concert the girls hosted a year ago. She is producing a Christmas CD and has asked the girls to be a part of it.

The girls will also be singing their own concert at Christmas time and next spring. Community concerts are favorites for the girls and they often sing for several Pagosa organizations throughout the school year. The choir is under the direction of Linda Parker.

If tonight’s audition time won’t work for you, call Parker at 264-1434 and she will arrange a different time for you to audition.

Come share the music, the good times, the new friends and the exciting opportunities that will come your way as a part of the PSGC. See you tonight.
