Special to The PREVIEW

The 22nd annual Auction for the Animals is right around the corner. If you are a local, a summer resident or a visitor, this is the summer event you don’t want to miss.

Join us for a fun and entertaining evening and help make this important fundraiser a great success for the dogs and cats at the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs animal shelter.

This year’s event will be held on Aug. 19 at the Ross Aragon Community Center. The evening will feature a delectable dinner and dessert served by the wonderful Pagosa Springs High School cheerleaders and other local youth. The cash bar will feature wine, beer and soft drinks. The doors will open at 6 p.m.

This special event is a terrific way to help the dogs and cats in our community’s only animal shelter and a great way to have a fun-filled night, too. Live music will be provided by Jack Ellis during dinner and the silent suction, and professional auctioneer Ken Kincaid returns to handle the rousing live suction portion of the evening.

The Humane Society is very fortunate to have super supporters and donors both locally and from afar. Here is just a sampling of some of the fabulous items donated and available this year:

Did you ever want to be a NASCAR driver for a day? How about an awesome Big Green Egg grille and all the necessary accoutrements for the master griller? Pedal through town in style on a cool men’s cruiser bike. If home décor appeals to you, we have lamps, tables and much more. How about a custom wood and leather chaise lounge from Dubai? You’ll find gift certificates for ski packages, spas, dining and lodging, and local entertainment. There are great gifts for your furry family members as well. It’s a super opportunity to shop for Christmas in August.

Do you appreciate beautiful jewelry? Bid on a stunning 14-karat gold and diamond “Pagosa Peak” pendant created by goldsmith Summer Phillips. Adorn yourself in an eye-catching Marahlago Larimar and white sapphire necklace and earrings or choose from a wonderful array of hand-crafted new and vintage jewelry.

Looking for some interesting and unique travel opportunities? We have trip packages that include event access, lodging and airfare for two people to the following destinations: catch the excitement at the 2017 Westminster Dog Show in New York City; savor fine New Orleans dining and jazz in the French Quarter and Preservation Hall; enjoy the taste of Napa Valley on the train and chauffeured Backroads Vineyard Tour.

The auction includes art work from artists Rick Unger and Wayne Justice, plus Native American rugs, sculptures and many beautiful prints. There is a special edition autographed copy of Ansel Adams’ “Yosemite and the Range of Light,” along with other signed books, celebrity merchandise and sports memorabilia. Don’t miss the gift baskets for people and pets and much, much more.

Auction tickets are limited and the event has sold out the past two years, so don’t delay. Tickets are just $40 each or reserve a table of eight for $320. The dress is Pagosa fancy (that means jeans are OK).

The festivities begin at 6 p.m., starting with the silent auction, followed by dinner at 6:45 p.m. and then the live auction. Tickets may be purchased at the Humane Society Thrift Store and Animal Shelter, Higher Grounds Coffee or by calling 264-5549.

Please help support your local Humane Society by attending this very important annual event. The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs does not receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States, American Humane, the ASPCA or United Way. The Humane Society relies on revenue from private donations, the thrift store and fundraisers such as the Auction for the Animals to fund the activity of the animal shelter and the many programs that support community members and their pets.

Remember to purchase your tickets in advance. For more information on the event, visit our website at www.humanesociety.biz or call 264-5549. Come on out Aug. 19 and enjoy a wonderful evening — you’ll be glad you did.
