Fran Korten, founder and editor of Yes Magazine, to speak to Earth Community group

Special to The PREVIEW

On Monday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Ruby Sisson Library, we will have the amazing opportunity of hearing Fran Korten speak with us.

She will begin by telling how she and her husband, David Korten, author of “How Corporations Rule the World” and “The Great Turning,” lived and traveled around the world to gain the perspective they’ve achieved on the world situation.

David Korten describes in his books the development of one of the biggest problems to face human civilization. He tells how the 5,000-year-old empire model is no longer sustainable and must give way to the future model of earth community.

Since the earth community is evolving and developing, the format of a magazine can be used to best communicate progress and new ideas with the world. That is how Yes Magazine came about 20 years ago.

Fran Korten will also talk about specific world problems and solutions. Later, we will have a relaxing time with refreshments to visit and ask her other questions. This is a great chance for us to learn from the most remarkable person I know. She is in Pagosa for a few days to visit her sister. You will not regret attending this event.

The Earth Community will not have many activities this fall due to the election on Nov. 8. We are not affiliated with any party, but encourage our members to actively participate in the election process. We all must take the time to educate ourselves and maybe others about the issues and we all must vote.

Our only scheduled activity is an Anti-Monsanto Rally in mid October.
