Lady Pirates state-bound

RPE_9226With a 23-0 record, the Pagosa Springs High School Lady Pirates are state-bound, while the Pirate boys fell just short of upsetting the state’s No. 1 3A boys’ team.

The No. 1 Lady Pirates defeated the No. 17 Colorado Springs Christian Lions Saturday afternoon in Pagosa to advance to the Great 8 next Thursday in Denver.

The Lady Pirates will now take on a familiar foe in the Great 8 — the No. 9 Centauri Falcons, who upset No. 8 Bennett 50-38.

The No. 16 Pirates, however, were marooned in the Sweet 16, falling to the Denver Science and Tech-Stapleton Knights 47-35, despite holding a 23-19 lead at halftime. The game was played in Denver.
