Following their second- and first-place finishes at the the district tournament this weekend, the Pirate and Lady Pirate basketball teams, respectively, are advancing to regionals.
The Pirate basketball team defeated Bayfield Friday night, but fell to Alamosa Saturday night to claim second place at districts.
The boys are now the No. 16 seed heading into state playoff action and will travel to Denver next weekend for regionals.
The Pirates are slated to take on No. 17 Basalt Friday, March 4, and will look to advance to the Sweet 16 round, where they would play either No. 1 Denver Science & Tech Stapleton or No. 32 Roaring Fork.
The Lady Pirates claimed the district title with wins over Alamosa and Centauri and will host regionals as the No. 1 team in the state.
The Lady Pirates will take on No. 32 Buena Vista in the first round of playoff action, then will be looking play either No. 16 Grand Valley or No. 17 Colorado Springs Christian.
