Day 2: Pirate wrestling state tournament update


One Pirate wrestler remains in competition in the state tournament in Denver — Jaden Hinger.

At 195 pounds, Hinger (17-10 going into the tournament), a senior, logged two wins Friday to remain in the running for third place, first defeating Strasburg senior Skile Ames (17-9), then claiming a victory over Denver West senior Chris Padilla (26-10).

Saturday, Hinger is slated to face Platte Canyon sophomore Conner Peterson (39-9).

The other four Pirate grapplers lost their  matches Friday, falling out of contention.

At 126 pounds, sophomore Tate Hinger (19-16)  lost to  Valley senior Jordyn Gutierrez (31-11).

At 132, sophomore Trevor Bryant  (23-14) lost to Ft. Lupton freshman Darian Rosales (24-17).

At 145, senior Tyler Cowan (22-14) lost to Mead junior Caleb Mendez (21-12).

At 152, sophomore Dalton Lucero fell to Valley senior Dakota Gore (11-4).
