Pirate wrestling state tournament update


All five Pirate grapplers taking part in the state tournament in Denver are now on quests for third place, having lost their first matches of the tournament.

At 126 pounds, sophomore Tate Hinger (19-16 entering the tournament)  lost to Berthoud freshman Austyn Binkly (37-8) via fall. Hinger is now slated to face Valley senior Jordyn Gutierrez (31-11).

At 132, sophomore Trevor Bryant  (23-14) lost via an 8-3 decision to Berthoud junior Matt Bailey (37-5). Bryant will now face Ft. Lupton freshman Darian Rosales (24-17).

At 145, senior Tyler Cowan (22-14) lost to Erie senior Tobias Campbell (31-9) via fall. Cowan is scheduled to face Mead junior Caleb Mendez (21-12) next.

At 152, sophomore Dalton Lucero fell via major decision to Alamosa’s Reis Martinez (26-6). Lucero will now face Valley senior Dakota Gore (11-4).

At 195, senior Jaden Hinger (17-10) lost to Lamar sophomore Bart Gruenloh (27-12) via fall. Jaden Hinger will now face Strasburg senior Skile Ames (17-9).
