Pirates beat Aztec, Ignacio 3-0; face Monte Vista tonight

On Thursday, Oct. 22, the Pagosa Lady Pirate volleyball team took down the Aztec Tigers by a score of 3-0.

In the first set, the Pirates won 25 to 20. In the second and third sets, the team beat Aztec 25 to 15.

“Aztec was a great team win for us last Thursday. It was our final home game of the regular season and I’m glad that we got a win, especially for our 6 seniors on the team,” coach Connie O’Donnell wrote in an email to The SUN.

Madi Lewis made half of the team’s kills, with 20 throughout the game. Megan Farrah put down eight balls against Aztec, and Faith Ahlhardt put down four.

Taylor Jones led the team in aces, scoring four against Aztec. Remy Oney and Farrah each made three aces during the game.

In terms of digs, Farrah made 17 throughout the game. Madi Lewis made eight and Oney made seven.

LaShae Smith made 13 assists and Lauren Fortney made 10. Miah Pitcher led the team with two blocks, and Farrah led in service receptions with 16.

As is tradition at the final regular season home game, O’Donnell honored her senior players after winning against Aztec. She reflected on what each of the players brought to the team this year, and shared her thoughts with The SUN.
