Voters wishing to mail their ballots should do so no later than Friday, Oct. 30, as ballots mailed after that risk not arriving on time for Election Day.

Voters may have concerns about mailing in their ballot after Secretary of State Wayne Williams released a statement on Oct. 27 urging voters to drop off their ballots instead of mailing them to ensure they are delivered in time to be counted.

“Several county clerks have expressed concern that the U.S. Postal Service did not deliver their ballots in a timely manner,” the press release states. “Those ballots that are filled out and mailed are, for the most part, sent to the USPS’s sorting center in Denver and then returned to the county clerks.”

However, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) released a press statement the following day that claims ballots will arrive on time if they are in the mail by Friday, Oct. 30.

“Voters can continue to mail ballots this week and the Postal Service will deliver them in time for Election Day,” reads the USPS press release. “Any ballots after Friday should be deposited directly at the designated location established by the local county/clerk recorder.”

No extra postage is require to mail a ballot.
