Pirate golfer earns state spot

Junior Owen Severs is set to represent Pagosa Springs High School at the 3A state golf tournament Oct. 5 and 6 in Eagle following his performance at Tuesday’s regional tournament in Colorado City.

The regional tournament was the second of two tournaments the Pirate golf team played in Colorado City over the last week, with neighboring Rye hosting both a regular-season tournament and the regional tournament at Hollydot Golf Course.

The first tournament was held Sept. 18, and the Pirates finished 11th out of 18 teams, with coach Mark Faber noting the team had “a little more success than we’ve been having.”

Severs led the Pirate golfers on the par-71 course at the tournament, shooting an 86.
