Recreation Center continues improvement project

Most of the heavy work has been done on the first phase of improvements being made to the PLPOA Recreation Center.

It has been just over a year since we began and we are really pleased with the changes that we have made so far. Moving the racquetball courts into the new wing has really opened up our interior space and has allowed us to increase our areas for cardio equipment. It has also allowed us to expand our weight training area and to have a more open, welcoming main lobby.

Outside, we are nearly finished with an enclosure for our new air-handling unit. This will allow us to complete landscape installation and the outside will look like new.

Speaking of the air-handling unit, it is really large. The improvements made to our HVAC system for heating and cooling not only enhance the comfort of the Recreation Center, but will allow us to realize thousands of dollars a year in energy savings. The system has been operational for some time now, but more needs to be done this fall — once our busy summer season comes to a close. This will mean a brief closure of the building in October to coincide with our regular annual deep clean and maintenance. We will close on Monday, Oct. 12, and reopen on Monday, Oct. 19, for needed building maintenance and cleaning, as well as completion of our HVAC system improvements.
