The Pagosa Springs Pirate football team will be in La Jara tomorrow night to take on the Centauri Falcons at 7 p.m. for its season opener.
Last week, the Pirates were in Buena Vista, where they conducted their traditional preseason scrimmages before the regular-season action begins.
“Our scrimmages were hard,” coach Scott Spoede admitted. “We went up against two very good programs — Buena Vista and Florence. We didn’t come out firing and it showed.”
The coach explained that, as the night went on, the team did get better, but the Pirates still have a lot of things to work on before their game against the Falcons.
“Overall, practices have been good,” the coach continued. “The key for us to be successful on Friday night is to finish this week with solid practices and reducing mistakes.”
A total of 44 players are on the team this year, including five seniors, seven juniors, 15 sophomores and 16 freshmen.
