Town council passes ordinance to allow marijuana businesses

Marijuana businesses will soon be legal within the town limits of Pagosa Springs after town council passed the second reading of its ordinance in front of a standing-room only audience at last Thursday’s meeting.

According to the wording of Ordinance 825, the town’s planning department cannot begin issuing business licenses until after Sept. 1, since it will take that long for town staff to set up the procedures for accepting and processing applications from business owners.

“It has been quite a journey for this particular item,” Town Manager Greg Schulte began his introduction. Schulte has been crafting the rules and regulations for marijuana businesses since January, and has brought up various aspects of the issue at almost every town council meeting this year.
