The Pagosa Springs High School Pirate baseball team added two games to the win column over the last week, while also adding one to the loss column, making the team 5-8 on the season.

The team split a league doubleheader with the Monte Vista Pirates Saturday in Pagosa’s home opener, bringing their league record to 1-3.

Pagosa won the first half of the Pirate-versus-Pirate action on the day, 10-5.

That game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, when the hometown Pirates added one to the board, adding another in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to build a 4-0 lead.

Monte Vista, however, rallied for five runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Pagosa, though, was not content to trail in the game and battled back with a six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to claim the win.
